Taurus PT 738 Review Here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/05/daniel-zimmerman/gun-review-taurus-738-tcp/
I put 106 rounds through the Cobra CA380 -- http://www.cobrapistols.net/product-freedom-series-ca.asp -- and am happy to report that it works! Most of the time. Not the most reliable pistol I've shot but far from the worst. I'm going to polish the feed ramp and that should help with feeding, but I think the primary cause of stoppages has been ejection related. The extractor may need some 'tuning,' but I think the design of having it right on top pulling the case up and out the top isn't the best idea, really... working against gravity and such. The gun DID work 100% held sideways gangsta style haha
Hey, EVERYBODY has a right to self defense and it has nothing to do with your budget. Attempted bans on "Saturday Night Specials" are nothing more than class warfare, saying that poor people cannot be trusted with or allowed to have firearms. If you need to protect your home or family and you want a pistol for that purpose, the Cobra here is the cheapest one on the market and it won't blow up in your face. I would recommend shooting *at least* four or five magazines worth through it to make sure it's functioning properly and you know how to use it before trusting it on any level for defensive purposes (normally that recommendation would be much higher, but we're assuming you're on a super tight budget here). It's heavy for its size, poorly finished, and ugly as sin but it works.
BUT... again... I think the Taurus PT 738 TCP is *THE* best .380 mouse gun on the market at any price. And it's $199. If you're on a tight budget but can save up and get the Taurus instead of the ~$105 Cobra, do it. If you have more money than you know what to do with and want a micro .380, I *still* recommend the Taurus. Compared to the Cobra, it weighs HALF as much (10.2 oz), is smaller and sleeker, is totally reliable with basically any ammo, holds one more round, has an amazing trigger, and is MUCH more pleasant to shoot. Gear Head Works TAVOR Parts Review: FLEx & TMF
So far I'm loving these parts from Gear Head Works! http://gearheadworks.com/Tavor_Parts.html
Full review write-up on TTAG here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/01/jeremy-s/gear-review-gear-head-works-tavor-parts/
I wasn't sure if the FLEx (Fulcrum Located Extra swivel) would be worth it since I didn't intend to use it for a swivel mount, but I've found that the gas blocking is really noticeable. I may even use it for a sling swivel mount in 2-point config because it holds the rifle at more of an angle vs. closer to vertical with the stock rear sling mount location. I'm starting to actually like that more. The TMF (TAVOR Modular Forearm) is great. Fit and finish are awesome and it's a VERY solid mount for my flashlight. There are a couple other options on the market, but I believe this one has the strongest mounting area for the light by a decent margin. It's certainly working well for me thus far. Kel-Tec PMR-30 Full Review: 30-round Magnum Powerhouse Lightweight Pistol! B.O.B. approved.
Full review write-up available on TTAG here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/08/daniel-zimmerman/gun-review-kel-tec-pmr-30
What better choice for your bug out bag or for the zombie apocalypse than a super lightweight, semi-auto pistol that holds 30 rounds?!?! The Kel-Tec PMR30 fits the bill here with 30 rounds of .22 magnum on tap, in a package that only weighs 1.2 pounds fully loaded! Decent accuracy and solid velocity from that .22 WMR round, with many bullet types and weights to choose from for everything from personal defense to varmint and small animal hunting. Lots of carbines and rifles are chambered for this round, which can make for a great combo. You can easily carry many hundreds of rounds of spare or loaded ammo with you. One great thing about .22 mag is that it's common enough to be readily available but unpopular enough that it doesn't disappear from the shelves during crazy ammo buying panics.
Overall, this is a really fun gun to shoot and it can be handy for lots of different uses! DoubleTap Range Tests: SUCCESS! Important ammo note w/ the Tactical Pocket Pistol
Full written review up on TheTruthAboutGuns... check it out! http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/07/daniel-zimmerman/gun-review-doubletap-tactical-pocket-pistol
To my surprise, ammunition choice is actually quite important in the DoubleTap Tactical Pocket Pistol! Use only U.S. specification, name-brand, factory new ammunition.
On this trip we ended up putting 85 to 90 rounds through the Double Tap (some was off-camera), for a grand total of 100 to 105 through this gun so far. With the ammo change came 100% reliability with no barrel jams or stuck cases, except for with reloads. That said, primers still look crazy: https://www.box.com/s/xbuf8dq360t91yyg7ttk
Five gun shop employees and one customer helped me get through all of these test rounds, which was most definitely necessary! Only two other people were willing to put more than 6 rounds through the gun. Seems like you shoot two and think, "wow, that thing kicks!" and then shoot two more and think, "I'm going to stop doing this now." I know I seemed like a huge wuss in this video, but my hand was already sore/bruised from shooting 3 days ago... as soon as I gripped the pistol in my hand I could feel that it was tender, and the first round fired let me know that this was going to be a pretty brutal outing. I'd encourage anybody to shoot 50 rounds through this thing in one sitting w/out gloves and describe how they're holding up. After 25 or so it was literally feeling like putting my palm up against a wall and smacking my hand right in the web of my thumb right against the inside of that middle thumb knuckle with a ball peen hammer. Tanfoglio MOSSAD Pistol: Shooting Review & Some Shaky History
Full write-up on TTAG here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/06/daniel-zimmerman/obscure-object-of-desire-tanfoglio-mossad/
If you know anything about the history yourself or can point to some documented history about these Tanfoglio MOSSAD pistols, please put it in the comments or send me a message! ...I'm going to ask some Israelis whom I know, and hopefully I can nail down something a bit more solid in the near future...
Enjoy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
History on this pistol is pretty thin. I was never really able to lock anything down, unfortunately, and reports are varied. Apparently, before Israel was producing any of its own pistols (before IMI was), it contracted with Italian firm Tanfoglio (that's Tan-FO-lio), manufacturers of high quality CZ clones. In fact, IMI's first Jericho pistol was built mostly using parts made by Tanfoglio. That's the solid history. Now, the Israeli Mossad is akin to the U.S.' CIA -- intelligence gathering, including legit spies, and trying to deny that they do "wet work." Many people claim that this series of Tanfoglio-manufactured "MOSSAD" pistols was issued to Mossad agents for their personal, daily protection use. These pistols were NOT used on "missions" of any sort (though some owners like to claim otherwise). This seems pretty obvious, as that would be about as likely as CIA agents carrying guns that said "CIA" on them during ops. However, some people say these guns really had nothing to do with the Mossad at all, and that they were issued to police and available for purchase by civilians. So this is the shaky history -- what/who these specific guns were actually for. Maybe it was both Mossad and police, and then later sold to the public as surplus. Who knows. Certainly some were imported into the U.S. as surplus, and one eventually found its way to me.
Only some of these pistols have this "Israel Shooting Association" crest on them. I think this almost certainly proves civilian ownership at some point. Maybe the Israel Shooting Association purchased them surplus from the Mossad/police? Again, I just don't know.
If you're familiar with the CZ 75, you would be familiar with this pistol. It has a firing pin block like a CZ 75B, and 75B magazines fit and function flawlessly in it. There is a minor difference in the mag release setup, which actually involves the trigger bar a bit, but the rest of the parts look basically identical. I can completely detail strip this gun and completely detail strip my CZ 75 SP-01, and not notice a real difference in any of the other parts, pieces, or process. Yet almost none of the parts can be swapped between the two guns. Most of them are different in such small ways that it isn't noticeable unless you're holding one sear cage right next to the other, for example, or you try to swap them. For the record, this applies to most of the current CZ clones as well: Tanfoglio/EAA, Sphinx, Jericho/Baby Eagle, ArmaLite/Sarsilmaz, Canik, BUL, etc. ...and past clones, including guns from Colt, Springfield, and Jeff Cooper's own Bren Ten. DoubleTap Full Review: Don't Shoot Reloads! 1st outing, not so good, my fault...
Please see my second review video (http://youtu.be/cXdJuWcULtA) for a successful follow-up! Full written review up on TheTruthAboutGuns... check it out! http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/07/daniel-zimmerman/gun-review-doubletap-tactical-pocket-pistol. After calling up DoubleTap and explaining the problems I was having, they firmly believed it was caused by my ammunition choices. Just because I have fired literally thousands (maybe 5k) of the ammo you see in this video without issue, does NOT mean it's correct for every gun. DT suggests using U.S. specification, name-brand, factory new ammunition and, well, they were right. I shot Federal, Blazer, and American Eagle on my next range outing with 100% success. Now, I think the gun also needed to break in, as I also shot about a dozen of the same reloads through it on the second outing and I had none of the barrels jamming closed issues, but I still did have problems with stuck cases. Zero stuck cases with factory ammo. So... Please watch my other video for a much more fair review of the Tactical Pocket Pistol!!! (edit: 06/27/2013.... 2nd video will be up tonight)
...Despite all of this, I hope you enjoy this review video. I found it pretty funny to watch afterwards, and kind of funny to see me struggle and swear with it. Man, this little thing kicks like a mule!!! Pretty crazy, considering it weighs almost exactly the same amount as my Beretta Nano, yet I can shoot that thing all day long, even with +P ammo, and not even think twice about it. Two shots through the Double Tap and you might start debating how important target practice / training actually is. And this is the 9mm! Shooting standard pressure, 115 grain target ammo. I can only imagine that the .45 ACP would be a bit worse. IWI TAVOR SAR Initial Review & Shooting Impressions: IDF's Awesome Bullpup, Now in Civilian Flavor
For my full initial impressions and everything you've wanted to know about the TAVOR, check out my review on TTAG here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/06/daniel-zimmerman/new-gun-overview-iwi-tavor-sar-part-one/
First day out with the IWI U.S. TAVOR SAR (Semi Automatic Rifle), a sweet bullpup style rifle. The SAR is the U.S. civilian version of the weapon that replaced the M16/M4 in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in 2003. It takes standard AR-15 magazines and has a 16.5" barrel, but is only 26.125" in overall length! This is not some sort of licensed copy, but an actual semi-auto version of the TAR-21 made by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) here in the U.S.
We measure the trigger pull, test a few different types of magazines (not show on video, but the Thermold worked fine and even locked the bolt back reliably, which it does not do on most AR's), talk about how to manipulate the rifle, note a comment from some ex-IDF guys, shoot some .223 and some 5.56, and make a note about brass ejection. Plus do a little tabletop and unboxing and talk about where the $1,999 MSRP comes from. Besides the bonuses that you get with the rifle (that cleaning kit, the QD swivels, the built-in BUIS with tritium dot, the magazine, the VERY detailed and awesome owner's manual, etc), you also get a truly military grade firearm that is assembled and finished to top notch specs. Attention to detail is very high, and quality is excellent. The barrel, for instance, is cold hammer forged, chrome lined, 1:7 twist, 5.56 chambered, made in Israel... no corners cut on the TAVOR.
This is just a preliminary review. What do you want to see in future videos???? Do you have questions about the TAVOR that you'd like to ask some guys who carried it and trained with it in the IDF? I'm going to add some of their comments into my next video, but please message me with requests! What do you want to see with this gun or in the channel in general? Taurus PT 738 TCP Shooting Review: GREAT Mouse Gun! 10k rounds reliable
Full write-up on TTAG here: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/05/daniel-zimmerman/gun-review-taurus-738-tcp/
In this video I take my new Taurus TCP out for a spin. First range trip with it and we put 104 rounds through the little guy. 100% reliability so far, with a GREAT trigger and good accuracy. A very thin, light, concealable gun that's easy to carry anywhere legal while dressed in basically any attire.
My local range has over 10,000 rounds through their rental TCP with NO problems! They rent basically every sub-company / pocket .380 that's on the market and this is the ONLY one that hasn't had a part replaced. The Sig P238 is a close runner up, and the Ruger LCP has only needed a couple of repairs (most notably, the takedown pin is a weak point on this model), which puts it just into third place. The rest of the contenders lag way behind, with most models having made multiple trips to the factory for warranty repair along with being repaired in-house. Little pocket guns just typically aren't made to handle high round counts.
Taurus has a success with this gun. Not only is it reliable and good-to-great in every other way I can think of, but you can find them for between $200 and $250! What a great deal. AND, they're even made in the U.S.
We'll continue to put the TCP through its paces, and it's going to be the test platform for some .380 ammo chronograph and ballistics gel tests that I'm planning on doing this summer.

Strike Industries Frame Shock Buffer: Glock 20 Slow Mo Recoil Test 10mm Review
In this video I test out and review the Frame Shock Buffer from Strike Industries. It runs a whopping $7 straight from SI: http://strikeindustries.com/shop/index.php/pistol-enhancements/glock/combat-beard-patch.html
The gun used in the video is my Glock 20SF with 6.6" Lone Wolf barrel and 20-lb recoil spring.
While I wasn't really able to feel a difference in my hands, the slow-mo definitely shows the gun jumping higher without the buffer than with it. Keep an eye on the point in the background with the front, bottom corner of the accessory rail is right before the shot and then watch how far it moves from the recoil. The shots with the buffer installed definitely showed less movement.
The rapid fire chicken test showed a better group with the buffer than without. Honestly, I can't call this conclusive though just because it isn't a sufficient amount of testing. Given the cost and availability of ammo these days (and 10mm is always expensive regardless), I just couldn't bring myself to blast away much more than this.
I DID have one issue, which was the buffer coming loose and moving around in the frame. It didn't cause any stoppages, but I still don't like the fact that it happened. If I were going to choose to run this in my gun, I would make sure it stayed in place. Maybe a small dab of superglue on the tab that holds the buffer to the metal serial plate. Maybe some other solution... but something.
